Germany after its reunification -
problems of a very difficult fatherland
At the end of the year 1989 pictures of joyful people in Germany West and East could be seen on the sreens of the tv - sets all over the world. People were astonished. The Federal Republic could annex the GDR without threatening with a war. Our Federal Chancellor Hemut Kohl was a diplomativ world champion. Now the Federal Republic of Germany became the most mighty country of Europe. A lot of foreigners feered the possible rising up German nationalism...
But we may not negligize the difference between public and published opinion. There were surely a lot of people who were glad about the unification, but also there were many people being afraid of the new situation. The old Federal Republic was a small, modest and a kind state. Our old capital Bonn was provincial. ...and now a new people with 80 million men and women should come into tis existance. But the reality of life should prove very soon that we are not one people, we are the people from the West (so called "Wessis") and the people of the East (so called "Ossis").
The first trouble came into its existence when GDR people bought up all of the chocolate Santa Clauses in November 1989, and we Wessis couldn´t get any more. Will the Ossis decline our welfare?

A two - cycle engine with two cylinders, ca. 20 SAE HP, three gears steering - column gear control, a body made of plastics. The most wanted extras were trailers. The US - speed limits would not be a problem for the Trabbi...

We all love the Trabant in West and East. We Wessis love the Trabbi because the car is a symbol for the fall down of socialism. For the Ossis the Trabbi is a symbol for their GDR - identity.
The GDR was a very ruined country. The houses were damaged, the GDR autobahns were full of pothols, the industry old and dirty, the whole of the country was a real heap of ruins and a rubbish - heap. The people of GDR were lazy and worked only sporadic. The reconstruction of the GDR would cost a lot of money, a very lot of money. ...our money! The money of us Wessis. Friendship will ever end because of money...
Today there are a lot of people who want to get back the famous wall of Berlin - higher and higher it ever was. The Ossis are missing their old jog - trot, and we Wessis are missing our old small pleasant Federal Republic. Our politicians are always saying "we belong together". Why? I don´t konw.
